Steps to Configure G-W's External App in Canvas

When a Common Cartridge by G-W is imported into a course, an External App is automatically created in that course. Canvas will display a message about the security parameters of the external tool (which will be named "www.g-wonlinetextbooks.com").

Important: As a best practice, we recommend configuring the External App on the site level, which is only done by Canvas Administrators with the permissions to do so, instead of on a course-by-course basis. Follow the instructions below to remove the External App that was automatically added to the course and add it at the site level.

1. Select Course Settings and then select the Apps tab at the top of the page. Next, select the View App Configurations button.
   
    
2. Select the Gear icon next to the www.g-wonlinetextbooks.com app and select Delete.
   Important: Instructors may not have permissions to delete this app. If you do not see the option to delete, please reach out to your Canvas Administrator for this step.
   

Administrator Level Changes

1. Navigate to the Admin section of the Canvas site and select Settings.
   
    
2. Select the Apps tab. Then select View App Configurations.
   
    
3. Select the +App button.
   
    
4. Using the Integration PDF sent with the common cartridge file, set up the External App by entering the requested information seen below:
   • Configuration Type: Manual Entry
   • Name: Enter a desired name for this app (G-W Publisher, G-W App, Goodheart-Willcox)
   • Consumer Key: Copy and paste the Key (Number 2 on the PDF)
   • Shared Secret: Copy and paste the Secret (Number 2 on the PDF)
   • Launch URL: Copy and paste the Launch URL (Number 1 on the PDF)
   • Domain: www.g-wonlinetextbooks.com
   • Privacy: We like to see “Name Only” for troubleshooting purposes, but this is up to the System Administrator/School District
   • Custom Fields: Copy and paste the Custom Parameters (Number 3 on the PDF)
   • Description: If desired, add a description about this App, such as "Use for Common Cartridge/LTI integrations with Goodheart-Willcox Publisher."
5. Select the Submit button.
